I Only Ate French Fries for a Week and Here Is What Happened

Let’s get the main thing straight: I am not addicted to French fries and any other type of processed and junk food. My goal was to find out whether the so-called dangers of eating French fries on a daily basis. I am not afraid of the food experiments, albeit sometimes it takes a lot of time and effort to recover from those experiments. Here is what happened when I only ate French fries for a week.

Day 1

“Wow, that’s yummy,” I thought when I first tried French fries after a long and painful breakup with them. I ate too much French fries during my college years so I didn’t even remember their taste. After all, it was almost 8 years ago. When I started my experiment, I was happy I did at first. I ate French fries with some juice and tea for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I felt amazing as usual. No complaints.

Day 2

They still tasted good and I didn’t mind eating them even for dinner. But I was a bit sluggish after my lunchtime (I thought it was all because of a hard project) and I experienced a horrible stomach ache before bedtime. I took the pill and felt asleep faster than ever.

Day 3

I skipped my breakfast and had only water. I couldn’t remember when was the last time I skipped my breakfast, but it was really strange. I didn’t want to eat at all. My stomach was growling till the lunchtime, but still I didn’t want to eat. When I reached home from the office, all I had in the kitchen was French fries. I had to finish my experiment so ate that seemingly tasty dinner.

Day 4

I couldn’t get up in the morning. I had a horrible sleep. I spent the whole night trying to tame my stomach pain. I drank a glass of water and headed to the office. I had trouble focusing on my schedule and my energy and productivity levels were frightfully low. I skipped lunch and snacked on one apple later a bit later in the day. My dinner consisted of (guess what?) French friend and a cup of black tea.

Day 5

My stomach probably got used to this junk food, but still I had a bad sleep. But the worst thing happened when I looked at myself in the mirror. My face was covered with blemishes, my eyes were red and my overall look was miserable. I skipped the breakfast but was incredibly hungry during the lunch so I had my serving of French fries. I also ate them for dinner. I drank 9 glasses of water to reduce those breakouts, though I knew it will not help.

Day 6

I kept eating French fries but I felt totally exhausted. I had severe breakouts (I’m still trying to get rid of them). I had higher blood pressure than ever before and sometimes felt chest pain. When I did my research I knew that eating French fries can increase the risk for serious health problems, including heart disease. But I didn’t know that I would experience it on the sixth day of my experiment. Luckily, it was Saturday so I had enough time to sleep. I did nothing.

Day 7

I was so happy it was Day 7 that I was ready to jump from the bridge. Why? Because bungee jumping is not my thing but I was ready to try it just not to eat French fries again. I spent almost the whole day in the hospital after I had the last serving of fries for breakfast. My doctor lectured me, of course. But I promised no more junk food experiments.
The bottom line: Never ever try any experiments with junk foods, especially French fries. Not only are they high in calories (400 to 730 calories per serving) and unhealthy fat (French fries are usually fried in hydrogenated vegetable oils like soybean, corn, and canola oils), but they also contain an enormous amount of sodium.
French fries have been shown to contain acrylamide, a dangerous substance that can cause neurological damage, different types of cancers, including lung, endometrial and ovarian cancers. Shortly, from my own experience, I can say that greens may not taste awesome but they are a lot healthier than junk food. I said goodbye to French fries forever. My body does not deserve such food.

Animal Sex: How Love Dart–Shooting Snails Do It

This Valentine's Day, mischievous Cupid will be fluttering about with bow in hand, seeking out mortal hearts to pierce with his love-tinged arrows. But the winged god isn't the only one known for this kind of behavior — oddly, land snails are also known to shoot "love darts." Land snails belong to the gastropod class, which includes thousands of snail and slug species that sport a wide range of reproductive behaviors. Mating for these species typically occurs in the wetter months, said Joris Koene, a biologist at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands whose research focuses on love darts.  A Cornu aspersum snail that was hit in the head by a love-dart (arrow) so hard that the dart came out the other side of its head, next to the right eystalk.
